What Dreams Are Made Of: A Vibrant Destination Wedding in Medellín, Colombia

We started off our 2024 wedding season with a fiery fiesta in Colombia! This luxury destination wedding complete with vibrant florals, fresh drinks, violinist, live painter, and incredible dancers, will get you in the mood to plan your own perfect wedding day.

After nearly a decade of being the most perfect, supportive, and chill couple, Alex and Melissa were ecstatic to celebrate their union amongst their closest family and friends. And while I had no doubt they were cool people when they mailed me a passport sized invitation, numbers don’t lie. About 80 people made the journey to Medellín, Colombia, mostly from the U.S,. to show their love and support. I don’t know about you, but getting my five friends to coordinate for a potluck can be hard!

But I suspect you might love A+M just as much, by the end of this recap.

The Wedding Weekend

We kicked off the weekend like any good destination wedding with a group activity! This one involved a coffee farm tour (duh!) and you bet we had the best coffee we had ever tasted.

Then we headed back to the hotel rooftop for the Cocktail Party. A super classy way to kick off your celebration and mingle with more guests! Plus, it’s an opportunity for more apps and drinks? I never pass up that opportunity.

We danced the night away with A+M, but then I was like “hey dude, don’t you have that really hot date tomorrow?” So we called it an early night and charged up all the batteries.

The Part With The Rings

A+M opted for a slow morning sans cameras so that they could really ease into the day. It was even proudly said that Melissa had her nails painted and promptly put on a face mask and took a nap! Mad respect for this level of chill.

We reported for duty a little after noon and were immediately stunned by the views. One of the newest venues in Medellín, Voilà Eventos, turned out to be one of the coolest settings for a Colombian wedding day. There was greenery everywhere you looked, colorful accents, exposed brick, and a cool breeze!! Were we dreaming? No, we were just at A+M’s dream come to life.

So it was of course Melissa’s legal obligation to walk down the aisle to “What Dreams Are Made Of.” Yes that song in The Lizzie McGuire movie! Well technically it was a cover by Brent Morgan, but that song. Nothing could have prepared me.

The cuties said I do and took off for some family photos while cocktail hour began. This was such a treat with all of the guests in mind. There were drinks in pineapples and coconuts, freshly scooped ice cream, the sounds of modern violin covers, and a gorgeous sunset overlooking the city. Often, we put our needs first in wedding planning (rightfully so). But this hour really cemented how grateful A+M were for their guests’ presence. Party favors are fun, but I’d suggest sending your guests home with full bellies and a photo in front of a funky booth. Might be worth it, rather than the custom coozies.

The Royal Ball Meets Colombian Rhythm

No doubt that A+M were the Prince and Princess of the ball, but it wouldn’t be a Colombian wedding without turning up the heat! As the celebration settled into the night, we witnessed touching speeches, a choreographed first dance, and even a crazy hour or “La Hora Loca” packed with dancers.

With everybody loose and excited about the festivities, it wasn’t hard for us to capture the fun. It was more like having too many options! Lauren and I literally ran into each other mid-conga line as we hustled for the shot! No worries, only bruised egos and silly memories.

As the guests began to dwindle and the Jonas Brother’s “Lovebug” filled the air, we knew this day was one to remember. One that felt so special, intentional, and completely unique to Alex and Melissa.

If you’re looking for a destination wedding photographer and videographer, Jas K Productions is hopping on the next flight out! Passports are ready to go! We’re so excited to see where love will take us next.
