Get Ready with Me! Photoshoot Edition

Figuring out what to wear can be tough, here’s a couple tips!

We all know what’s inside our closet - after all, you look at it day in and day out. But, when it comes to picking a STUNNING outfit for your session, suddenly you have nothing to wear!! If this is you right now, don’t worry, there’s a couple of things we can do to help!

1. Dress however you’ll feel most confident!

Being in front of a camera (probably for the first time) is tough! And what you wear has an impact on how you’re feeling. So, if you have an outfit that you always look great in, or a favorite pair of jeans, throw them on!

Still nothing to wear? Get in, cuz we’re going shopping! An outfit will make or break your session, so don’t be afraid to go that extra mile. Pro Tip: On a budget like most of us? Denver has so many thrift stores. Use them!! And be a little less afraid to experiment with different pieces. All of my shoots come with unlimited outfit changes because I love variety. Bring the looks, please!

2. Dress based on your location. Or let your outfit choose the location.

Do you want to shoot at the top of a mountain after a mile hike? Pick an outfit that works well with hiking boots. (If you really want to go all out though, I have a pop up changing tent for when we reach our destination!)

Or maybe you have to wear your signature jean jacket and sneaks. The mountains probably isn’t the best setting for that. Let’s hit the streets! Long, elegant flowy dresses? Let’s pick somewhere easy to access.

I’ve had clients tell me they feel really comfortable in a t-shirt and jeans. To which I say, “Go for it!” RiNo is a great place to make a simple outfit stand out! No fashion expertise needed, just a little coordination!

3. Match your partner or your surroundings.

Here’s something else to consider when picking an outfit. Who else is going to be in the photo with you? You’re all going to want to stay in the same color palette. Unfortunately that means if your partner wants to wear red, you’re probably not going to win the battle on wearing your lucky neon green socks.

Secondly, even if you’re taking pics solo, you’ll want to consider the photoshoot location’s colors and aesthetic. Will there be a lot of colors found in nature like blues, greens, browns? Lean into those colors. A lot of people ask me if that will “make them blend in.” I think it actually makes you stand out *wink*

4. Add a little bit of spice!

Adding a hat, sunglasses, jewelry, or a bold red lip can take your outfit and photos to the next level. Plus it’ll open up even more poses! What do you do with your hands? Adjust your hat, tip your glasses, swoop your hair behind your ear so I can see those hoops!

If accessories aren’t your thing, bring at least one “statement piece.” One hopefully that highlights your personality. For me, it’s some Doc Martens or a blazer.

5. Check out my Pinterest boards!

If all else fails and you still can’t decide on an outfit, hop on Pinterest! We have tons of boards that will hopefully spark some inspiration. This is a great resource if you’re looking to do something special and find a theme for your photoshoot. Nobody ever regretted prepping for their shoot and going big!
