My Photo Shoot Process: What It’s Like Shooting With Jas!

Most of the time, it’s your first time booking a photo shoot. We have many “first-times” in our life and if you’re particularly nervous about this one. Don’t be! I’ve got all the hot tips and posing techniques to help you look incredible.

Plus, I’m about to break down the entire for process! Here’s the blog for the people who like to look up the menu weeks in advance.

Step 1: You Hit Me Up

To be fair, if you made it here, you probably started by stalking tf out of me. Hopefully you like my style by now and are almost ready to take the leap! No harm in sending me a little email to let me know about your project. We’ll start off simple, give me whatever info you can. I want to hear your vision or I’ll help you create one!

Hit the contact link here. What are you waiting for?!

Step 2: We Get Down To Business

Now that we’ve been acquainted, let’s get down to the dirty details. What’s the purpose of this shoot? Do you have a color scheme or outfit style in mind? How do you want to look? Powerful or romantic or both?

These are the types of questions that are going to take your session to the next level! We’ll discuss these via email or phone and sometimes by Pinterest board!

Finally, we will nail down a time and date that works for both of us and keep the train moving.

Step 3: Locate And Execute

You may already have a location in mind or found the perfect one in my location guide! But more often these days, clients are asking me to find them something more unique. I’ve been asked to shoot at places like arcades or cemeteries. And I love to be the one to suggest a random pinned location where I saw an awesome set of walls or an abandoned lot.

Sometimes I also have to coordinate with vendors, like studios, venues, picnics/rentals. I try to avoid pulling photography permits most of the time, but for certain spots we’ll have to go through the extra hoops.

I’ll take care of all of this, so you don’t have to!

Step 4: The Moment We’ve All Been Waiting For: The Photo Shoot

I’ll text you the day of our shoot and meet you at the location we’re scheduled at! Then we’ll start off with some basic warm-up poses. I’ll give you plenty of feedback and let you know when to switch it up. Just do your best to trust me here!

My prompts and poses are more simple and candid. They’re curated to accentuate your best features, personality, and comfort. I’ll never say things like:

  • Just be yourself!

  • Now look at her and kiss her like it’s your wedding night.

  • What do you want to do next?

  • I’m sorry you’re just terrible and we have to end this session now. I hate you.

That last one is for all my friends with anxiety! Fun club, am I right?!

Things I’m far more likely to say:

  • YASSS QUEEN! Slayyy!

  • Oh my goodness, this outfit is just EVERYTHING!

  • Hold hands like this. Chin like this. And look at her…oh my GOD CUTIES! Now spin her around. Run into the street. Stop!! Look at that light! Ahh!

  • Please stop me if you want to do any specific poses! Or if something is uncomfortable.

  • It’s ok, I’m ok! That’s definitely the first time I tripped today.

Step 5: The Judge Cuts

We made it through hopefully a super fun shoot! Now it’s time for the cuts. On average, I take anywhere between 500-900 photos during a one hour photo session. Trust me, you do not want to see them all! So I’ll do the hard part of culling through and picking out the best shots so that you can make the final decision with typically 200 or less proofs per hour.

I’ll send you the proofs in your online gallery and you’ll get to make your selections! It takes about 3-5 days to hit your inbox. Eat some snacks and try to wait patiently if you can!

Step 6: Pick Your All Time Faves

Once that long awaited email comes through, it’s time to be the final judge. Your package already includes a set number of edited photos. You’ll pick out that many images from your gallery and I’ll know which ones you want edited!

Sometimes it’s too hard to choose. I get it. That’s why you can always add on images! Additional edits start at only $10 and even get bundled for a better price. You didn’t think you’d look this good, did you?

Step 7: Editing and Delivery

Once you’ve made the final cuts, I’ll get to editing! Since I focus on quality over quantity, each image is given the time it deserves to be color graded properly. I’ll also be able to make meticulous edits like erasing small blemishes and cloning out trash.

Give me about two weeks to make all the final touches, upload, and deliver the pics. They’ll be worth the wait! If you need photos by a specific deadline, please inform me ahead of time to see if I can accommodate.

Step 8: If You Got It, Flaunt It!

Ahhh here it is! The final gallery in your email! Now you can download and share all the images! Post them up and don’t forget to tag me @jaskproductions on all platforms. I want to be friends, pretty please.

And don’t forget to print them out! My galleries make it super easy to order high quality prints like your photos deserve. But feel free to print them where you like. They just need to be shown off in real life!

If you want to learn more about the photo shoot process, check out the blog or the FAQ’s section. I’m also happy to answer any burning questions, so don’t be shy and send me an email!

Hope that this breakdown of my photo shoot process helps you feel more confident in booking your next Denver photo shoot with Jas and the team!
