Why A Second Photographer Is So Worth It On Your Wedding Day

Trust me, you’ll want to read this one!

On your journey to find a wedding photographer, you can be easily overwhelmed with all of the package options. And one of the most common questions that I get is: “Why would we need a second photographer?”

I totally get it! We’re all ballin’ on a budget, plus doesn’t that just seem… overkill? Do we need that many photos? Won’t we just see repeat shots? Not with a great photography team! We assure you that having the right crew to document your big day will make all the difference.

Enjoy Your Day And Stay On Schedule

One of the key benefits of hiring a second photographer is having an extra expert on site to ease the day along. For instance, if you and your significant other are getting ready in separate locations, one of us can be at each spot to capture every moment and alleviate time constraints. More of us, plus more time to create, allows for all the best vibes on this special day.

Make Sure Grandma Gets Her Photo

Family pictures can be a huge portion of the wedding day if you have an extensive list of relatives. Here’s where a second photographer would be extremely beneficial. We each will take half of one family and then come together at the end. The flow is quicker, easier, and a lot more enjoyable.

Even when the split isn’t necessary, I value a second photographer so much because they can direct, call out names, and organize so that we can get this done and out of the way. Trust me when I say you want these 15-20 minutes to be no longer than that. I’ve witnessed too much screaming and running around when suddenly cousin Joe has disappeared.

Your Gallery Will Be Thoughtfully Unique

When there is a second photographer present, I always ask them to focus on creating unique composition while the primary gets the necessary shots. Events of the day happen so quickly, and we have to maintain those safety positions to ensure we successfully capture the moment. Meanwhile, the other photographer is running around shooting artful wide shots, natural candid reactions, or maybe just trying the shot without flash to see if that turns out better in post.

Overall, your gallery is bound to benefit from having a more artistic/all-encompassing approach! Two heads are always better than one. The Leo in me has hated learning that (we tend not to ask for help).

If you can add a second photographer/videographer to your wedding package, I would highly recommend! You’ll see the cost benefit on the day of and then into the future! Your gallery will have at least 50-100 unique added images that last forever. What other vendor can give you that satisfaction? ;)
