Why Is Photography So Dang Expensive?

Let’s talk about it openly and honestly!

When you start looking for wedding vendors, it’s probably one of your first times getting quotes from photographers, event venues, DJ’s, etc. And you might be at first very overwhelmed with the numbers. You probably have so many questions. And reasonably so, are probably wondering, “Why is photography so damn expensive?”

Let’s break it down. We know you’ll feel much better about a large purchase when it’s justified and well worth the investment.

Gear Is So Expensive

If you’ve never purchased photography gear, then you may be unaware of how quickly the cost can add up. From the best computers for editing, to monthly software subscriptions, camera bodies (just the body) that costs over $2,000. There’s so many expenses we have to take into account.

Do you need this level of gear to be a “professional photographer?” Not, necessarily. But it sure does help! And your photos are totally benefitting. Every time I level up my gear, it’s mainly so that my clients are receiving an overall better experience and product.

We Work Before, During, And After Your Project

Before any photo session, whether it is a simple family photoshoot, a professional branding shoot, or a 10 hour wedding, we are already working. We are organizing time, location, staff, communications with you, mood boarding, and scouting. Then, of course, we work during your project shooting and directing. Finally, we continue to work after on the post-production and editing side, which can be lengthy. I give myself at least 2 hours of estimate editing per hour shooting.

It may look like you’re paying for just one hour of in person work. But additional work is typically calculated into the price for most modern photographers.

You’re Purchasing Unique Art

If your photographers are cool, relatable, and fierce like us, then it might be hard to remember that we are considered artists. Should we have worn our best Picasso fit today?

Artists in today’s world look different, but want to be appreciated in the same way. It takes us years of training, schooling, experience, and unique creativity to produce the work we do. Just like a professional in any other industry, as we grow, our work naturally becomes more valuable.

Infinite Value That Literally Lasts A Lifetime

Photos are unlike hair cuts, clothes, nails, and other luxuries that we have to constantly renew and pay for. But photos capture a moment in time forever, so that you can either use it over and over again or simply reminisce on. You’ll always have that gorgeous, priceless pic of you two hanging up on the wall. Or get endless business from that branding photoshoot that completely changed your website.

Let’s not even bring copyright into this. But if you really want to, here you go.

My packages are always curated in the best interest of my clients for a successful and stress free shoot. I’d love to work with you next! So contact us about our pricing or booking a photoshoot to see what package will best fit your photography needs.
