“A Classy Cookout” Fall Wedding in Estes Park, Colorado
When I first met Jordan and Lauren, they expressed to me how important it was that they worked with a queer photographer who wouldn’t pose them like “besties” and that they have a fantastic time celebrating with their family and friends. A year later, we saw their vision come to life as they exchanged heartfelt vows and partied the night away! And we took some gay af photo and video. These two had us SOBBING during edits!
Like all the best love stories, Jordan and Lauren were brought together at a time in their lives when they least expected to meet their forever partners. They met in college as “two goofballs” who were just trying to figure out life. Ten years later, their journey most certainly deserved her moment in the spotlight. Seriously, these lovers will push you over the edge into “total believer in soulmates.” For reference (spoiler), Jordan wrote a letter to “her future wife” exactly one year to the date, before meeting Lauren! If that doesn’t scream “meant to be,” I’m not quite sure what does.
They tied the knot with a gorgeous celebration surrounded by loved ones at the O'Connor Pavilion in Estes Park, Colorado. With a venue this stunning, we could go from crying at the ceremony to partying at the reception with ease! It was indeed the classy cookout that The Luna’s had envisioned over the year long planning process.
Guests trickled into the venue in the later afternoon and shortly after, they were followed by the brides and their squad. They had gotten ready in the morning separately, so nerves were just a little high as I greeted Lauren to mic her up. She was so excited to celebrate and see her future wife at the end of the aisle. I could tell at any moment there would be tears of joy.
So once the music started playing and the team took their positions, Lauren smiled down the aisle accompanied by her mom and memorial to her dad. When she reached the front she could hardly hold it together as Jordan made her appearance at the end of the aisle, also accompanied by her mom. One of their childhood besties officiated the ceremony which made it all the more special as they literally tied the knot during a handfasting ceremony. We’d talk more about how perfect their vows to each other were, but there’s a video you can witness for yourself! Not a dry eye in the room!
Once the first kisses were had and the two wives made their grand exit, we worked efficiently to conduct the family and wedding party portraits, so they could enjoy the reception. Their family had traveled from all over, and we definitely wanted to make sure they had at least one nice pic to commemorate the day. We always coordinate a detailed shot list to keep the flow of photos moving as efficiently as possible, while still allowing for candid moments.
The fall weather blessed us with long-lasting sunshine and beautiful, bold aspen trees as a backdrop! Can’t forget that mountain view. We made it happen even at peak sunshine!
Once the formalities were finalized, it was time to switch gears and partay! One thing that The Luna’s were passionate about having at their reception was catering from one of their favorite vegan taco trucks. It was a huge hit amongst the guests who were able to fill up their plates quickly and happily, so they could get ready for dessert! Cupcakes all around!
Everyone filled up their tummies and drinks, signed the guestbook, and mingled as the time for speeches and first dances came around. It was a lovely and heartfelt moment to share with their friends and family before the DJ turned things up.
The dance floor was opened and after a few moments, we slipped away with the newlyweds to take some golden hour portraits and frolic amongst the trees. These two had a little practice with posing during their engagement shoot, so they were pretty much pro’s during our 15 minute window. But most of all, they were having so much fun being themselves and being in love. That’s seems to be the secret for photos that feel like you. No rules, just enjoying time with your best friend.
Heading to the pavilion, we could hear the guests cheering as they welcomed back the gorgeous couple. They were ready to dance the night away to all of Lauren and Jordan’s favorite hits. The love in the room was palpable and we couldn’t have felt happier that their wedding day was as special as we hoped.
Behind the Scenes
The team and I had a great time creating at O’Connor Pavilion and would love to come back to photograph and/or film for your special day! The venue is the perfect backdrop for couples who value a laidback setting amongst picturesque backgrounds. Plus you can host up to 350 people on these accessible, open grounds. There’s plenty of potential with this venue that’s tucked away, yet so close to Estes Park.
