Two Brides And A Hundred Sharks: Denver Aquarium Underwater Wedding

When Holly and Shelby reached out to see if we could capture their underwater wedding day we said OH SHELL YEAH! Not only do they have the most beautiful partnership of 10+ years, their unique ceremony had us giddy with excitement and overwhelmed by the possibilities! Their venue was set to be in Downtown Denver Aquarium honoring their shared love of scuba diving.

We started the day getting ready with the family at the tank entrance before the brides went underwater and the guests set up for viewing in the aquarium. Holly’s mom brought a family heirloom to add that priceless touch to their special day– her mom’s wedding veil! A sentimental touch for a few pics in their wetsuits. Two mini veils and two garters were the final additions to Holly and Shelby’s ceremony look. 

Meanwhile, the guests were asked to say some well wishes and pretend to be their favorite sea animal! Our first guest book video! We’re excited to integrate these into every wedding video project going forward!

The two lovebirds, or lovebarnacles if you will, dove into the water and swam through the tank of sharks, stingrays, eels, and plenty of fish as they made their way to the ceremony spot. They joined hands as their pre-recorded vows started playing for the guests outside the tank to hear. Everyone was glossy eyed, including our crew, as the two professed their absolute adoration for one another and their journey together. Finally, the two exchanged custom shark tooth rings to use in the tank, to preserve their everyday wedding bands.They kissed and everybody cried tears of joy that these two were able to celebrate their authentic, unwavering queer love. 

After the o-fish-al moments of the day, Holly and Shelby got all dolled up and into their wedding dresses, while their guests got to explore the aquarium and prepare for a grand bubble exit. Then we hopped on the party bus taking everyone to the rooftop reception at The Jacquard Hotel in Cherry Creek. 

The party continued into the night with custom cocktails honoring their golden retriever, Crumbl Cookies, and heartfelt speeches celebrating the coming together of these two families. We were honored to capture so much love and laughter.
